The EYiE presentations

Participants will be encouraged to take an active part in the seminar by making presentations.

These have worked very well in past EYiE meetings.

Your presentations will be about:
  • your country;
  • epilepsy in your country;
  • your associations activities, or what you are doing;
  • other youth projects you have been involved in.

These steps will help you prepare.

1.     Form a group for the presentation (e.g. the people coming frm your country). This will mean contacting them before the seminar. You can use the Chat room for this if you want - it is available 24 hours a day.

2.    Decide which aspects of your country and of epilepsy you are going to present.

3.    Begin with everyone in your group getting some background knowledge of the different aspects of epilepsy and the cultural aspects of their countries.

4.    Divide into roles where every group member becomes an expert on one part of the topic.

5.     Collect or create the visual materials you are going to present.
These will make it easier to keep to the topic and remind you what you are going to say. The visual materials can be on power point, as overheads, a poster (or several)   If you want you can sing, dance ... anything (well almost) is allowed.

6.     Talk to a lot of people before the presentation.
Not only is this a good opportunity for you to tell people about your work, but it is also a good opportunity for you to get new ideas that might improve your work. If people seem interested in what you are doing, discuss it with them.

7.     Think ahead of time about some of the questions people might ask you. This is especially important if you are presenting a small part of a larger topic.

8.     Be well-prepared and ask someone to give advice about the script.

9.     Include a good introduction and a solid, thoughtful conclusion.

How to design a poster or a graphic for your presentation.

A  good poster or graphic can say a thousand words!

1. Design a poster with reference to the aspect you have chosen and present it in front of the group. (In this case, you might focus on one or two points concerning   epilepsy and seizure.)

2. It all starts with an idea. Pick one or two things you want readers to learn. Be creative!

3. Use simple and clear Graphics. Make sure the content is clear and easy to understand.

4. Headings help readers find key sections. They should be big enough--- at least two inches tall. Use less than 30 words.

5. Use a light color background and dark letters for

    contrast. Avoid dark background with light letters and overly bright

    colors--- It's very tiring to read.

6. Leave some open space in the design.

Tips for giving the Presentations:

  • Enthusiasm -- Nothing will help your presentation more than communicating your passion and confidence.
  • Get an early start on your presentation.
  • Face your audience. Talk to your audience not to yourself
  • Maintain eye contact--- don't look down. (Remember -- you're the speaker)
  • Use the right amount of humor to keep your audience interested and attentive.
  • Be organized
  • Retain control of the flow of the presentation. It is perfectly acceptable to reply with:

       "We can discuss that after the conclusion of the presentation..."

  • When you have finished the presentation, thank the audience.
  • Make materials available
  • Make yourself available
